About my “why”

I love the multi-faceted power of food. As a child, I watched my mother in the kitchen and experienced food as a tangible expression of her care and affection. Food brings people together and creates a context for connection. After training as a pastry chef, I enjoyed food as a creative, artistic expression. Along the way, I have discovered how food can help me fuel well, grow stronger, and show up better. I’ve also come to understand food as medicine, as an avenue to heal and improve well-being.

Food is caring.
Food is connection.
Food is creativity.
Food is fuel.
Food is healing.

We are integrated beings. The food we consume affects every part of us.

During my years in a corporate career, I experienced suboptimal health due to a sedentary lifestyle, sleep deprivation, chronic stress, and regular consumption of nutrient-poor food. I struggled with low energy. I didn’t even realize how subpar I felt in my body until my health began to improve. In my mid-30s, I started working out regularly and then I experimented with diet changes to increase my stamina.

I was curious about how to better support health and pursued certifications as a personal trainer and then as a nutrition coach. I still wanted to learn more. Then, the experience of walking with my mother through her cancer treatment and losing her too early galvanized me to pursue my graduate degree in nutrition.

Today, in my late 40s after making incremental changes to my lifestyle and nutrition, I wake up from a restorative night’s sleep feeling alert, clear-headed, and enjoying steady energy throughout the day. I want to help others find this too.

About functional nutrition

Functional nutrition is a branch of functional medicine. This approach uses whole food and nutrient therapy to address the root issues of chronic diseases instead of simply muting symptoms and allowing those issues to continue unchecked.

At Eat Flourish the holistic and personalized approach considers genetics, lab values, specific environmental, and lifestyle factors to create a healing strategy. Imbalances and deficiencies are uncovered with functional testing which then informs a precisely tailored protocol.

Functional nutrition uses food as medicine but also considers the “food” for life that exists outside of your plate (ex. sleep, movement, environmental factors, etc.) when designing support for overall health.
